New Hire 30/60/90 Template
Fill this out before day one. Hand it to them on day one.
Days 1–30 — Learn
- By day 30 they should be able to:
- Met everyone they'll work with regularly (list who, schedule it week one)
- Shadowed the core process end to end at least once
- Has completed one small, real task — not training, real work
- Weekly 1:1 on the calendar, recurring, owned by you
Days 31–60 — Do
- By day 60 they own:
- Handling routine work without checking in first
- Has told you one thing that seems broken or confusing (if not, ask — fresh eyes expire)
- You've given one piece of corrective feedback (waiting past 60 days makes the first one a bomb)
Days 61–90 — Own
- By day 90 success looks like:
- Running their area with you informed, not involved
- You've asked: “Knowing what you know now, would you take this job again?”
- Decision made and communicated: fully on track, needs support in a named area, or not working
The rule
- •If you can't fill in the three write-in lines before their first day, the problem isn't the new hire. Don't start the clock until you can.
